Travis Perkins, which is part of Travis Perkins plc and largest supplier of building materials to the building and construction industry, recently staged a wellbeing day at its Workington branc., Set up and managed by Travis Perkins’s Stay Well Ambassador, Natalie Ashcroft, it saw 130 customers and colleagues attend and learn more about the support available to those in the construction sector.
Travis Perkins hosted the Help Inside the Hard Hat On Site team and during the event they gave out advice to those in the sector on the support available for emotional, physical and financial health and goody bags too!
The activity is part of the builder’s merchants #ManDown initiative which raises awareness of mental health concerns in the sector and offers solutions to improve the lack of support that is available.
Natalie Ashcroft, who used to work at the Workington branch, says: “There’s not a great deal of mental health or wellbeing support for those in West Cumbria so this day was a way of helping improve that. Thanks to the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity we helped to highlight what places those in the sector can turn to if they are facing mental health, financial concerns or physical discomfort. We are planning for more of these site visits in the North of England and in the Midlands soon.”
Sarah Bolton, Director of Charitable Services at the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity said, “It is vitally important that we reach out to the trades and let them know about all of the support we have available for them and their families. Putting our Help Inside the Hard Hat campaign ‘on site’ has proved hugely successful and means that we are reaching some of the most vulnerable groups in the construction sector. Our on site team are all from the trades and are able to share their own lived experiences with poor mental health in an informal and relatable way. The feedback so far has been tremendous and we are busy planning more visits across the country.”
