Spain Building and Maintenance Ltd recently put their best foot forward for a sponsored walk for our charity. Jason Spain, Managing Director of the company has sent us this update.
“We were made aware of the charity after attending industry events and conferences for the insurance repair sector and felt that for workers in the industry it was difficult to access help that was relevant for them. When we were a fledgling business some 20 years ago, we had a young joiner that took his own life, it is something that stays with you. If there is anything we can do to prevent it happening again it must be worth raising awareness amongst our staff and colleagues.
So to raise funds for the Lighthouse Club we did a sponsored walk to the top of Pendle Hill from Barley village. We chose this as it was something that everyone can do and was attended by tradesmen and women, supervisors, managers and admin staff. How did the event itself go? The event was great and well attended, the weather was good which always makes a difference”.
Jason added, “The thing that struck me when doing the walk was that it got everyone talking about their own mental health and how they have been affected it, and how they can access help if they need it. We have also delivered a tool box talk to reinforce the message that there is help available if you need it. Clearly the best part of the walk was the Pendle Inn at the end, with everyone having the opportunity to have a drink and food and chat in an informal setting away from work.
Many thanks to all who attended the walk to the top of Pendle Hill raising funds for the Lighthouse Club. We set a target of £1000 and thus far have raised over £1400, we are extremely grateful to those that sponsored the walk, donated prizes and purchased tickets for the raffle, a fantastic effort by everyone involved.”
Thank you so much to everyone who took part in the walk. Every step you took will make a difference to someone in our industry!”
