On what was arguably the hottest day of the year so far, with wall to wall sunshine, 44 hardy golfers teed it up at Romsey Golf Club for our annual golf day. After a bacon bap and coffee, they sensibly emptied the Pro Shop of bottled water, and well oiled with sun lotion, started their 10 Hole Texas Scramble.
The course was beautifully presented, although hard, the greens were perfect, quick and true with a bit of give in them. John Reilly Civil Engineers under the leadership of Matthew Reilly came in with a gross 33, nett 24.6 to win by 0.1 of a shot in the morning Scramble from MKJ Group.
Light lunch was enjoyed on the Club terrace, before starting the afternoon Four Ball Better Ball Stableford, best two scores to count. You felt in the heat that the team that could complement each other were the most likely to come out on top and win the Lighthouse Shield. One team that displayed that characteristic, and as a result, won the PM competition, were Aeropark Developments, the first time for some considerable period have they had their hand on the trophy.
Their winning total was 97 Points, just edging out ND Technology by 5, but a great score in that heat and well done to Jack Kerr and his team. Every team that played deserves some recognition for going out in those conditions, and performing at such a high level, it was not easy. Neil Pulford of ND Technology completed the prize-winning with nearest the pin in three on the par 5 18th green.
Dinner was served, a very nice 3 meat carvery, speeches, presentation of prizes, of which every player wins a prize of some description, (all teams bring 4 prizes) and the date set for next year, which is on Thursday 4th July 2019, again at Romsey.
A huge thank you to all who attended and to once again Romsey Golf Club for their support.
