Skanska Step up support

Skanska have chosen the Lighthouse Club Charity to support in 2018 and 2019 and launched their fundraising efforts on World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10th.

The held a series of tool box talks to raise awareness of mental health issues and challenged their employees to walk, cycle or run (collectively), the distance from the capital cities of all the countries that Skanska operate in. The total mileage was 7,926 miles, equivalent to 16,739.712 steps.

Some sites also held cake sales and encouraged their employees to count their steps over the day or the previous weekend.

One of our their mental health ambassadors in Peterborough also raised awareness of the alarming suicide rates in construction by placing supportive information on three bridges, to help deter anyone thinking of taking their own life.

Employees were also encouraged to light a candle near a window at 8’o clock to show support for World Suicide Prevention Day. Collectively the teams raised an amazing £1070 and plan to do more fundraising activities for their ‘Lighthouse Year’.
