SDC Mental Health Awareness Week F1 Simulator Tour

3rd August 2023

As part of their drive to encourage men to speak out and get help when they are suffering with their mental health, the SDC Mental Health First Aiders took their Formula 1 Simulator on a tour of their  construction sites during Mental Health Awareness Week in May.

For a donation to our charity,  people were able to test their skills around the Indy Circuit of Brands Hatch.

Jacquie Silverton, Mental Health & Diversity Manager for SDC said, “We were surprised by the number of budding Lewis Hamilton’s working at SDC and it wasn’t long before some healthy competition evolved.  The fastest lap time of 31.997 seconds was recorded by Steve Yanusauskas who, in traditional Formula 1 style, won a bottle of champagne.

The idea for the  fundraising event came from the floor of our Mental Health Awareness Seminars.  I was asked by a number of people what we could do to raise money to help those in need – to give something back.  I approached the Board for permission to take the Sim on tour who were more than happy to support this great cause as the mental health and wellbeing of SDC employees is one of our core values.”

The event was a huge success not only raising £5,333.38 for us but also providing a fun day with access to the company’s Mental Health First Aiders and helping to break down the stigma associated with mental health issues in the construction industry.
