Jerome, a 29-year-old electrician from London, was facing immense stress and anxiety after falling £2,000 behind on his rent.

Balancing his full-time job, working four days a week, while also attending college one day a week was proving overwhelming and was impacting his mental health. Due to late rent payments, Jerome was then served an eviction notice, adding even more pressure to his situation. After seeing our helpline number on site and through his manager’s recommendation, Jerome reached out to Lighthouse Charity for support.

After speaking with our helpline team, Jerome was assigned a caseworker to help him improve his financial situation. We provided £500 towards his rent arrears and assisted him in securing an additional £519 through a Discretionary Housing Payment (DHP). Our caseworker also advised Jerome to have his housing benefit paid directly to his landlord and set up a manageable payment plan, which he has successfully maintained.

This support reduced Jerome’s financial and emotional burdens, significantly improving his mental health and overall stability. Grateful for the assistance, Jerome now feels more confident managing his finances and is optimistic about his future.

Jerome highly recommends Lighthouse Charity to others in need – “I would encourage colleagues to contact the Lighthouse Charity, they really helped me.”
