The team at PJ Hegarty were coming to the end of big project and the team were starting to go their different ways for other projects. A lunch time discussion on doing something that would bring the construction team together quickly escalated into an ambitious September challenge.
The challenge was a 100km walk/run or a 300km cycle to be completed within the month. The team quickly agreed that our charity should be the benefactor of their €20 registration fees- a huge thank you to the team for thinking of us.
A PJ Hegarty representative commented;
“Once we enter the gates each morning we have one thing that connects us regardless of our home lives, we work and navigate our day around a construction site that can be as much as a solitary job as it is a team one.”
The team set up a Whatsapp group and invited the team to join. All they had to do was submit a screen shot of their walk/run/cycle. A leaders table was set up and circulated twice a week. This added to the competition and got a bit of rivalry going.
“It was interesting to see the competitive streak come out in the least suspecting people and the requests of rounds of golf being part of the km’s!!!”
At the end of the month 5 people in total completed the 100km walk/run or 300km cycle with a number of people buying km’s at 50 cents a km to complete the challenge, and one guy running 305km of the required 100km!
The team held a wrap up meeting where certificates were given to the five finishers and a final tally was revealed, in total a staggering €670. All the screenshots submitted from everyone’s efforts and pictures of the wrap up were collated and put onto a poster to hang up on site. The event was equally a team building event as it was a fundraiser and we are all proud of the sum raised.
A huge thank you, and well done to everyone who took part!!
