The story behind #WearRedforChildren as told by North London Structures & Groundworks:
2022 is the second year of the #WearRedforChildren initiative, created by Frank Hughes, MD of North London Structures and Groundworks and FTH. In its first year the campaign raised £16,000 for 2 children’s charities. Now in its second year and partnering with The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity, and we have a big aspirations to more than exceed this number. But we need your help!
Frank created the initiative as a result of a personal experience. In 2018, his son Eoghan was admitted to The Heart Centre in Crumlin Children’s Hospital, Dublin where he underwent open heart surgery at 4 months old. Frank says “ The incredibly kind and specialist staff at Crumlin Children’s Hospital will be remembered as nothing short of heroes by myself and my wife, Fiona. Beyond the healthcare workers, we are also so grateful to my network, who showed their support and kindness during this time.”
Inspired by this support Frank wanted to give something back and started #wearredforchildren last year. Dermot O’Grady supported it along with a few of his clients at Ardent Tide as Dermot was also in Crumlin receiving specialist help as a child as he had 3 kidneys. As Dermot says “it wasn’t much fun fixing things then but In later life this was to prove invaluable for networking!”
Dermot, and Ardent Tide, are backing this campaign as it resonates at several levels and Dermot says “It is important to appreciate what we have and to give to those in need where we can. If you would like to join in supporting these great causes then I both welcome and thank you in equal measure.”
Together, we invite the construction industry and other friends to come together to support our very stretched healthcare services for children and the Make a Wish Foundation, all of which provide families with support and hope in what can be very dark times.
#WearRedforChildren will raise funds for 5 incredible charities. Donations will be collected by The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity in a special children’s reserve fund and distributed to support our chosen children’s charities. Distribution of the funds raised will be The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity Children’s Reserve (33%), Crumlin Children’s Heart Centre (33%), Mercy University Hospital (11%), Cork University Hospital (11%) and Make a Wish Foundation (12%).
Will you join us and #WearRedforChildren this Valentine’s Day across your sites and offices?
