About The Event
The fundraising event aims to cater for all categories of cyclists with 2 routes to choose from, either a 55 mile or 15-mile route.
The 55-mile route meanders through the beautiful orchards of Co. Armagh and visits both Co. Armagh and Tyrone. Along the way, cyclists will visit the village of Loughgall and the historic city of Armagh with its iconic tree lined mall. From there they will bypass Killyleagh enroute to the equally historic village of Caledon in Co. Tyrone, crossing over the River Blackwater. Onwards to Benburb having crossed the Blackwater again back into Co. Armagh. Benburb is well known for its historic priory and grounds. From Benburb, the route progresses through Blackwatertown and onwards to Maghery on the south shores of Lough Neagh. From there the route follows the stunning lough shore and on to the finish at ITS Portadown headquarters. The route is relatively flat with approx. 1200ft elevation
For novices, beginners or folk short of time, a 15-mile route is ideal for those wanting to dust off their bikes. This route follows the longer route for the first 8 miles and then heads back past the beautiful 17th century Ardress House National Trust property to the finish.
Both routes start and finish at Industry Training Services Portadown. Food and water stops will be provided along the way and all routes will be signposted and marshals positioned at key junctions. Cyclists can also enjoy much needed refreshments at the finish. The cycle promises to be a fun day out and everyone welcome to hit the road with the ITS team and enjoy a great cycle.
ITS’ managing director and vice chairman of the new NI Lighthouse committee says…We are delighted to launch this cycling event and look forward to welcoming folk to the orchard county in September for what should be an enjoyable spin…We also hope the event will raise awareness of the charity and the fantastic work that it does throughout the UK and Ireland, it is quite unique in that respect… I would like to thank Pure Fit out for supporting the event.
