Last week saw our Northern Ireland Club celebrate 60 years of delivering charitable services to construction workers and their families.
The club has recently been bolstered by new volunteers who will be leading a pro-active and energetic committee to raise awareness of our charitable services. We’re delighted to announce that David Hughes of Pure Fitout is the new Club Chair and Brendan Crealey of Industry Training Services is the new Vice Chair.
The committee will be forging new links with the construction community and championing professional development within the industry through networking and fundraising events.
David Hughes-Chair said, “I first learned about the Lighthouse Charity in 2022. I had recently completed a BSI training programme for ISO 45003, so I had enhanced my understanding on the impact of psychosocial risks to workers and the extent of harm being caused. The Lighthouse Charity is the only charity that provides 100% dedicated emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families – far beyond that which most businesses can provide. For this reason, I was compelled to volunteer for the Northern Ireland club in the hope those in need here receive their support.
Brendan Crealey-Vice Chair added, “ As a company we have been supporting local suicide prevention charities for several years. Additionally just a few years ago a lifetime friend of mine unfortunately lost a child to suicide which sharpened my resolve to try and help in any way we could. I then discovered the Lighthouse Charity which not only offers emotional support but also physical and financial wellbeing support. The charity is a perfect fit for our business as a big proportion of our clients and candidates are working in the construction industry. If we can help to save just one life, then all our efforts are small in comparison to that achievement.”
To support these efforts the club are also looking for a Treasurer but we’d also love to hear from anyone that is interested in joining the team to help in any way. Whether you have marketing expertise, are good at helping to plan events and sell tickets or would simply like to be involved in some way then please get in touch.
The Club will be launching a fundraising cycle event which is taking place on 16th September starting at I.T.S Portadown and finishing in Monaghan.
The club are also organising a fantastic fundraising lunch in Titanic, Belfast on 29th September. Find out more here
