It was fundraising with a clean sweep when Multitech Site Service attended their soapbox event. With input from personnel across the business and an audience of over 30,000 spectators, Multitech’s most recent community initiative proved to be one of their largest – and most rewarding – to date, at the Great Dunmow Soapbox Race!
The event, held in Multitech Head Office’s hometown, is heralded as the 2nd largest event of its kind in the UK, with 97 Soapboxes racing down the lanes of Essex.
Their company’s Social, Charity and Engagement diary is aligned to the UK wellbeing calendar and this project presented many opportunities for them to represent and reflect on these values. The first build session was scheduled to coincide with Time To Talk Day, when volunteers from the business came together over pizzas and protractors to design and deliver the Soapbox.
The motorless vehicle was hand-made using repurposed and sustainable materials – from old bikes to 2nd hand paint – by Multitech staff, with the support of the company, who took time out of their day to teach and learn new skills and work alongside each other.
From the start it was agreed that they wanted the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity to be a focus of our design. The placing of the logo prompted valuable conversations and the event provided them with a wider platform to promote the charity and the importance that Multitech, as a business, place on the wellbeing of our people.
The teamwork, encouragement and support experienced throughout the project, culminated on the day when they were delighted to welcome colleagues, friends and family to cheer the team on over jumps and through snow foam chicanes, in the sunshine. Gemma Wedlock, Mulititech employee, remarked it as an event that ‘truly brought us all together’ and ‘wants to thank all of those who supported this project which has provided us with so much entertainment and raised funds for local charities.’
Thank you again to all the employees as Multitech who put in the hours to build the soapbox and everyone in attendance on the day who showed their support for the company as well as our charity.
