MMD Construction recently took on a meaningful challenge, combining team-building with fundraising, as employees climbed Mount Brandon in County Kerry to support our charity.
The idea for the hike came from the team’s shared desire to take on a physical challenge that symbolised the resilience required in their line of work. Mount Brandon, located in the stunning Dingle Peninsula, offered the perfect setting. The climb not only tested their stamina but also provided an opportunity to bond and reflect on the significance of their efforts.
On the day, employees from across the company, including both site and office staff, came together to tackle the trail. The journey to the summit was no small feat, with unpredictable weather and steep terrain adding to the challenge. Members supported one another every step of the way, sharing encouragement, stories, and even snacks during rest breaks. Reaching the summit was a proud moment for all involved, with breathtaking views serving as a well-earned reward.
For those unable to join the hike, the company organised complementary fundraising activities, including a four-week “MasterChef Bake Off” and Cake Sale. These events allowed employees to contribute creatively while fostering the same spirit of collaboration and generosity.
In total, MMD Construction raised over €2,650. The team reflected on the experience with pride, recognising how much the fundraising efforts had achieved both for the charity and for their own sense of unity. The hike and accompanying events exemplified MMD Construction’s dedication to the people behind the industry, showcasing the company’s belief in giving back to the community.
HR Manager Amanda Lennox summed up the sentiment: “The hike was tough, but it pales in comparison to the challenges many face daily. Supporting Lighthouse Charity is our way of giving back to the people who make our industry what it is. We’re proud to have played a part in helping make a difference.”
MMD Construction is already looking ahead to future initiatives, inspired by the success of this year’s efforts.
