MMD Construction embarked on a challenging adventure as employees, inspired by the collective desire to conquer Ireland’s highest peak, Carrauntoohil. The decision to climb this iconic mountain emerged from the company’s tradition of participating in various marathons, with the aspiration to keep the team united, motivated, and to raise funds for our charity.
The climb, which took place on September 16th, witnessed a diverse group of climbers, ranging from experienced to novice, all coming together for a common cause. The ascent began at 9:30am, and despite the challenging terrain and occasional wind at the summit, the team’s determination prevailed, proving to be an incredible team-building experience.
As the team descended around 3:30pm-4 pm, breathtaking views and a well-deserved break allowed for reflection, conversation, and a sense of achievement. The group later gathered in Killarney for refreshments and dinner before returning to Cork, marking the end of a memorable day.
Memorable moments included not only the breathtaking scenery and laughter but also the collective spirit displayed when facing challenges like the Devil’s Ladder. The team’s resilience and words of encouragement propelled everyone to reach the summit.
In addition to the climb, MMD Construction organised a creative bake sale in the office over five weeks leading up to the event. Employees showcased their culinary skills, fostering a friendly competition with medals and trophies awarded for the best dishes. The bake added a touch of light-hearted fun and provided an opportunity for those not partaking in the climb to support our charity. The combined efforts resulted in a proud donation of over €2,500.
Expressing gratitude, Amanda Lennox, a representative from MMD Construction said, “We were extremely grateful for all the support we received from our colleagues, friends, and family, as without it, we would not have been able to raise over €2,500 for The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity.” The commitment to breaking the stigma around mental health was evident, with the company regularly participating in Mental Health First Aid Training and Managing Mental Health in the Workplace courses, emphasising their dedication to raising awareness within the industry. The team looks forward to future challenges and opportunities to contribute to our charity’s impactful initiatives.
