Knight Harwood chose to do a fundraiser as we wanted to do this in line with raising general mental health awareness. They called it Wellness Wednesday and linked it to National Stress Awareness Day.
The event went well, the head office participated along with 8 of their projects based in and around London. Alongside the bake sale, they held toolbox talks around stress and mental health awareness for all subcontractors on site.
Knight Harwood was even praised by a contractor for holding this day as he was personally affected by suicide in his family and was grateful to them for highlighting it. They were also extremely happy with how much money they managed to raise, especially considering one their sites had total power loss for the duration of the morning!
Knight Harwood recently formed a mental health team and chose to support the Lighthouse Club, as they feel “it is such a great charity, giving all the right support and guidance to all those in our industry that need it. Mental health can be hard to discuss and especially in our industry, and I would rather us tackle it before things become an issue. I want all Knight Harwood staff and our trades on site to understand that there is help out there. We have plenty of Lighthouse posters on all working sites, and have utilised some of the posters which are in different languages.
As a business we chose to support the Lighthouse charity as I believe they provide outstanding support in our industry to all those affected by mental, physical and financial wellbeing challenges. The 24/7 line is an invaluable service which will undoubtedly be saving lives on a daily basis. We know that Lighthouse doesn’t receive public funding so we want to support in any way we can.“
