HQR Golf Society Drive Home £13,000

13th November 2024

The HQR Golf Society brought the construction community together for a series of charity golf events this year organised by Justin Bird of BTP Group and Chris Butler of Walter Lilly.

The year’s event calendar included three smaller golf days at Chobham, Birchwood, and North Middlesex golf clubs. Each of these attracted around 40 players who enjoyed a day of golf while raising money for our charity. The highlight of the year was the flagship event at Woldingham Golf Club in September, which brought together 96 golfers for a full day of activities, prizes, and fundraising.

The event kicked off with breakfast and networking before teams of four headed out to the course for a 9 a.m. start. Players returned to the clubhouse later in the afternoon for lunch, a prize ceremony, auction, and even more networking. The auction was especially popular, with items including rounds of golf at some of the year’s favourite courses.

The putting competition on the 18th green was hotly contested, with each player paying £10 for two attempts to win a putter that had been donated by Priory. The challenge had only been won by one other competitor at the club in the previous five years but amazingly, the second person to try, Sam Durman from Grafton Londut , took home the coveted prize amid cheers from other players!

Prizes were also awarded for various challenges on the course:

· Best Scoring Team: LTS Refurbishment took home the HQRGS Cup and some specially branded whiskey glasses.

· Best Scoring Individual: James Brooks of Caroline Baker Ltd received a unique ‘orange’ HQRGS winner polo shirt.

· Longest Drive: Morgan Etheridge from Live Proven earned a £400 golf gift voucher, sponsored by Derek Gough Associates.

· Closest to the Pin and Hit the Green: Chris Wingrove of Castellum won a top quality putter and a cash prize.

Across all four events, the HQR Golf Society raised £13,000 for our charity. Combined with the money raised by their annual HQR Ball, HQR London has now raised a staggering £78,000 for the charity this year.

HQR have expressed how thrilled they were with the success of the events, which brought people together to not only compete in a round of golf, but also to connect and make a difference for a cause close to their heart.
