Herculean effort from Hercules Site Services

29th May 2020

To accentuate the Mental Health and Wellbeing strategy within Hercules Site Services Ltd, a team of volunteers from across all roles within the company are planning to walk up Pen y Fan, the highest mountain at 886m above sea level in the Brecon Beacons in Wales.

Hercules SHE Manager Gary White explained;

“Everybody has their own mountain to climb, for their own personal reasons, we are collectively climbing this one as a team, what a sense of achievement!”

Due to the current pandemic, these plans are on hold, but the team still wanted to do their part! Instead, the team embarked on the Hercules Site Services Virtual Three Peaks Challenge to raise much needed funds for our charity and at the same time encourage positivity and a sense of wellbeing across the whole of Hercules for everyone taking part in the challenge.

The whole Hercules team collectively covered the distance from their offices in South Cerney to Pen y Fan in South Wales, then on to Snowdon in North Wales and onto Ben Nevis in Scotland and finally returning back to the office, a total distance of 1,270 miles. The challenge also included achieving 3,316m in elevation gained so they could say they summited the three peaks.

To achieve this, they set up a Hercules Club on the Strava App, all the Team at Hercules were encouraged to join Strava so that they could record and save an activity to the challenge. It was not a race, even when they walked the dog for instance, they recorded it on the App and saved it to ‘Team Hercules’ so they could knock off the miles.

Gary continued;

“The construction industry truly has alarming suicide figures of two people a day taking their own lives, we wanted to raise money and awareness of this problem within our own industry, to that end we raised money for the Lighthouse Club,  the Construction Industry Charity, who do so much for Mental Health within the industry and who rely on donations to do this.”

Congratulations to the whole team on such a fantastic achievement – we really do appreciate all your hard work.
