All Team Heathrow members are now recycling their damaged or expired hard hats by using the specially designed hard hat shaped bin on site.
Inspired by Heathrow 2.0, the hard hat recycling initiative was developed by Alan Sable and Lee Rawlings from Heathrow’s Health and Safety team. The bin is emptied and sent to a company called Yes Recycling, who break down the hats to produce polymer which is made into pellets which are then used for a variety of plastic products such as traffic cones, barriers and water attenuation tanks for construction sites.
25 of Team Heathrow’s supplier partners have sponsored the scheme and have their company logos displayed alongside the specially designed bin. All proceeds from the sponsorship are coming to the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity and so far a whopping £6000 has been raised – so a massive thank you to everyone involved!
