Last year, GKR Scaffolding launched their ‘BetterFuture, Better Mental Health‘ programme to support all of its staff. Part of the support package included directing staff to our Construction Industry Helpline.
In recognition of the free support the helpline provides to all GKR employees, the Directors decided to make us their company charity so that any fundraising activities would support the helpline. Initially, they signed up as a Company Supporter. But that was just the start…
Their first event was hosted in the new year at the Olympic Velodrome with a group of GKR’s clients, all of whom were passionate cyclists. The day started with a ‘Build a bike‘ activity which saw some of our construction industry leaders build two bikes that were then donated to us to be used for auction, gifts or prizes.
GKR’s owner and Group Director, Lee Rowswell, also become Chair of the Pink Tie Club (PTC) for 2019. The PTC is an informal networking group that arranges a number of events every year, and a rotating Chairperson selects a charity to benefit from fundraising at each event for their year at the helm. So far the PTC has raised £32,000 this year for us, through events such as the Annual Golf Day.
GKR is doing whatever it can to raise awareness of mental health, and to promote the support available to colleagues through our helpline. Earlier in the year they ordered 4 new trailers for their fleet of lorries, and decided to put the helpline number on the side of the lorries instead of the usual GKR branding! So far the lorries have been seen by thousands of construction workers as they make deliveries to sites across London. Pictures of them regularly get shared on social media – they look fantastic!
To top it off, Lee Rowswell and Health and Safety Director, Peter Cullen will be running the London Marathon for us next year – hope you’ve started training guys!
A huge thank you to GKR and the Pink Tie Club for the incredible amount raised so far – activities are ongoing!
