Earlier this year, a team of eight dedicated employees from FP McCann took on the gruelling National Three Peaks Challenge as part of a team-building and charity fundraising event. This ambitious undertaking saw them summit the three highest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales within a tight 24-hour window. Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon, each a formidable peak in its own right, stood as the symbolic milestones for this incredible journey.
The challenge was not only about conquering the peaks but also navigating the logistical hurdles of traveling between the locations. Two dedicated drivers, Sue and Ken, played an instrumental role in ensuring the team remained on course. They guided the team up and down the country, skilfully navigating both traffic and the occasional sheep on the road. Thanks to their tireless efforts, the team managed to arrive ahead of schedule at the foot of the second mountain, setting the stage for a thrilling head torch-lit ascent of Scafell Pike in the early hours of Friday morning.
As the FP McCann team ascended Scafell Pike, they encountered a sudden change in weather conditions. What started as a challenging ascent soon became a battle against the elements. When they reached the final peak, Snowdon, they were greeted by three weather warnings, powerful 60mph winds, and relentless driving rain. But the team, undeterred by the adverse conditions, persevered and successfully completed the National Three Peaks Challenge within the stipulated 24-hour timeframe.
The event proved to be an unforgettable team-building experience, pushing all eight members to their physical and mental limits. Their indomitable spirit and determination are a testament to the power of teamwork and resilience.
The decision to support our charity was deeply personal for the FP McCann team. Dominic McGorty, the eldest brother of one of the team members, suffered a life-changing accident in July 2020 while working as a steeplejack. The accident resulted in severe injuries, abruptly turning him from the primary breadwinner to relying on Universal Credit to support his family. During this challenging period, when additional financial support was scarce due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dominic turned us for assistance and we were able to provide him and his family with a lifeline during a difficult time.
Through their efforts, the FP McCann team managed to raise an impressive £6,580 for our charity, ensuring that we can continue its mission of offering vital support to construction workers and their families during times of need.
