Everyone was a winner at the Lighthouse Construction Industry’s Christmas Lunch recently when the star of the live auction was a JCB 19C-1 Conventional Tailswing Mini Excavator.
Long terms supporters JCB were keen to offer something that would be turn heads at the live auction and Lord Bamford very generously donated the prestigious model. The excavator was on display outside the Park Plaza on the day of the event and attracted plenty of attention.
JCB UK and Ireland Sales Director Dan Thompstone said: “JCB has a long history of supporting the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity and we were delighted to donate the JCB 19C-1 mini excavator to help raise much needed funds for the charity.”
Despite a flurry of pre-bidding and very stiff competition on the day, it was John Martin-Hoyes of John Martin Hoyes Ltd who successfully scooped the coveted JCB. The winning bid was £16,500, which contributed to a record breaking afternoon that raised a staggering £227,000 for construction families in crisis.
John has been attending the Lighthouse Construction industry event for over 30 years as a guest of T C Harrison JCB or JCB themselves. Established in 1978 in Lincoln, John Martin-Hoyes Limited are building and civil engineering contractors involved in all aspects of construction work and pride themselves on their long standing policy of directly employing local labour.
Bill Hill, CEO of the Lighthouse Club, said: “JCB have donated excavators for two years in a row now, so we really can’t thank JCB and Lord Bamford enough for their ongoing and generous support. We’d also like to extend a huge thankyou to John for being so generous with his bidding and for being such a steadfast supporter of our charity. The Lighthouse Club charity receives no public funding and with so many construction families in need, we rely on the support of the construction industry so that we can continue our vital work”.
