We caught up with the fantastic team over at Designer Group who completed the 4 Peaks Challenge in an effort to raise money for our charity. The adventurers took on the climb and managed to raise £6904!
What made you choose to do the 4 Peaks Challenge?
‘The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity is a vital service for construction workers and their families. We believe that by supporting and raising awareness/funds this will open up access to the free emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families.
It was a perfect chance for us as a team to act upon our company’s values. Respect for one another as a group and as individuals, to Trust each other and be Safe in our endeavours always looking out for each other. The Challenge of taking on 4 of the UK’s highest peaks was one that we all agreed was a once in a lifetime opportunity and one which we grasped and trained so we could Deliver by helping to raise money and awareness for this amazing charity.’
How did the event itself go?
‘The event was spectacular. We had sub-zero conditions on the Ben Nevis climb that we will never forget our fingers and toes are still thawing out!! Then an overnight spin to Helvellyn to tackle what felt like 100km winds at the summit. It was something special to see all the head torches heading up the mountain knowing that each individual had their own goals to achieve but at the same time there was 40 plus of us to encourage their every step to reach the summit. Snowdon was where the wall was hit hard, by the end of this climb the tank was running on empty but the challenge was not over so the overnight crossing to Dublin came at the perfect time. Lastly Carrauntoohil we finally got a bit of weather and what a mountain and backdrop to finish the challenge. This was special and the feeling of achievement and pride is something that we all found hard to describe. The event was a great success helped by Bill and his team (aka the bus drivers) the humour and comradery between us all was something to behold.’
What were the memorable moments/highlights?
‘The moments that will live with us without a doubt were the conditions on Ben Nevis. We could have been on the summit of Everest such were the conditions but so memorable at the same time. What stood out for me overall was the team spirit the laughter and the giving out all done in the same breath. How everyone gelled and became a family for those special couple of days it was amazing. To pick one highlight in particular for me was personally the final climb “Carrauntoohil” to touch the cross and scream at the top of my lungs while all the time holding back the tears of what we had all just achieved it was truly emotional a once in a lifetime feeling it will be hard to beat.’
A huge thank you to all who donated and climbed!
