Construction News Specialist Awards evening raise £26,500

5th April 2018

Hundreds of the UK’s leading specialist contractors, suppliers and influential companies from across the construction industry have combined to raise almost £30,000 for construction workers in need.

For two years running, the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity has been lucky enough to be chosen as a partner for the Construction News Specialist Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. The awards are the only national awards to recognise the outstanding achievements of the UK’s specialist contractors.

The awards ceremony was hosted by comedian Russell Kane who entertained the audience and joined category winners for celebratory photographs. The celebrations went on until the early hours with guests trying their luck at the casino tables, donated by the charity.

The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity provides a 24 x 7 helpline for all construction workers and their families in the UK and Ireland. The helpline provides advice on mental health and wellbeing, emergency financial aid to families in crisis, and support on legal, tax and debt management matters.

Last year the helpline received 1500 calls and a total of £705,000 of emergency financial aid was granted to 400 families. 1100 calls were for support and advice on a variety of mental health and wellbeing issues and guidance on debt and legal matters.

Bill Hill, CEO of the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity said, “We’re honoured to be selected as the Specialist Awards’ charity partner again this year and we never cease to be amazed at the generosity of our supporters. We receive no public funding, so rely on support from within the construction community to enable us to provide a life line to those in need in our industry.  This money will go a long way to making a difference to the lives of our construction workers and their families. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who make this very special night possible.”

Tom Fitzpatrick, editor of Construction News added: “We were proud to have the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity as our charity partner again for these awards. There have been turbulent times recently in our industry and the charity provides a vital lifeline to those who need extra support, whether that be emotional or financial aid. Thank you to everyone who made the night such a success and for donating so generously.”
