The Lincolnshire & Humberside Christmas lunch in December 2023 saw a record-breaking 216 guests from the construction community, despite the financial challenges faced by many.
Volunteers Jo and Rosie warmly welcomed guests to the Beachcomber Club in Humberston, whilst expertly managing the sale of raffle tickets for some fantastic prizes.
The festive gathering opened with a welcome from the club’s Patron, John Clugston, who shared insights into the workings of our charity. As is tradition, adding a touch of humour, John’s concluding joke received a room full of laughs. Regional Ambassador Sarah Poirier highlighted the support our charity could offer and extended a huge thank you to those in attendance for their ongoing generosity and support.
Chairman Roger Hunter then offered grace before the guests enjoyed a delightful lunch. The afternoon unfolded with the eagerly anticipated raffle, featuring a generously donated gallon bottle of Jameson’s Whiskey. Stand-up bingo followed, keeping the excitement high until a participant claimed the £100 prize.
Liverpudlian comedian Paul Boardman took the stage, entertaining the audience with his humour and adding to the event’s atmosphere. The next raffle boasted over 20 prizes, including the coveted star prize of £250 in vouchers just in time for Christmas. The event concluded with an auction skilfully conducted by Committee Member Nick Borst. The diverse array of auction items were donated by individual supporters and companies and ranged from Manchester United football tickets to Steiff and Harrods teddy bears. .
The Committee expressed deep appreciation for the support received, acknowledging Sarah Poirier’s assistance in the lead-up to and during the event. Planning is already underway for the next Christmas Lunch scheduled for Friday, December 6.
Following a thorough count-up, an impressive £10,200 was donated, marking the highest contribution from the club to date.
