CENE Awards

21st June 2017

The North East construction industry came together last week to celebrate examples of brilliance through the Constructing Excellence North East Awards 2017. This is the thirteenth year of the awards where companies, projects and individuals that have excelled over the last year are recognised by their peers.

More than 550 construction professionals, were in attendance to celebrate the achievements across 13 awards categories this year including, Integration and Collaborative Working, People Development, Sustainability, Innovation, Digital Construction, Health, Safety & Wellbeing, Preservation & Rejuvenation, Value, Client of the Year, SME of the Year and the prestigious Project of the Year.

Catriona Lingwood, Chief Executive of CENE, said: “The calibre of this year’s entries was exceptional giving the judges a particularly difficult time in agreeing the winners. The quality of work and high standard to which the projects and companies have worked is a credit to them and the industry. These awards concentrate on the expertise of all aspects of the industry setting the benchmark for the rest of the industry to aspire to. All those recognised on the night should be especially proud of their achievements.”

Each category winner will join the other regional winners at the Constructing Excellence National Final in London in November, giving them an opportunity to receive further recognition on a national level.

Ian Storer, Director of Corepeople Recruitment, headline sponsor of the awards for the seventh year running, said: “These awards have built up a reputation as one of the must-attend events in the North East construction sector. It is a great opportunity to celebrate what is great about the industry, the people who work within it and the contribution it has made to the region’s economy over the course of the last twelve months”.

John McGovern, Head of Asset Delivery at Northumbrian Water and Chair of CENE, said: “ The importance of the CENE Awards should not be underestimated. CENE’s mission is to deliver improved industry performance resulting in a demonstrably better built environment in the region and these awards are the showcase for that work. All our entrants are committed to this cause and our winners are excellent examples of the industry’s desire to excel as businesses and deliver world class projects in the region. Well done to all those concerned.”

Guests this year also enjoyed a prize draw to support the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity and over £4,000 was raised on the evening.
