Align JV. HS2  project team Helping Inside the Hard Hat

25th May 2022

The Align JV team (Bouygues, Sir Robert McAlpine, and Volker Fitzpatrick) are partnering with us to raise awareness of positive mental health and wellbeing for the duration of the HS2 project whilst raising much needed funds for the charity.

Publicity about the poignant Help Inside the Hard Hat campaign caught the eye of Project Director, Daniel Altier who quickly got to work on finding out more about our charity’s work and was keen to ensure that all of the staff and supply chain on site were aware of the resources available to them.

The initiative was kicked off by Neil Hancox, Health, Safety and Wellbeing Director, who instigated the production of a ‘safe to work’ video that featured the various Help Inside the Hard posters as a prompt for people to share their stories and signpost to help. The video is shared at all site inductions and charity Helpline posters and over 700 Help Inside the Hard Hat posters are displayed along the project route to raise awareness of the emotional, physical and financial support we can provide.

The Align JV team and their supply chain have also raised over £5000 through the sale of hard hat liners and Project Director Daniel Altier recently presented a cheque to Bill Hill, CEO of the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity. .

Daniel said, “We are responsible for delivering ‘C1’ of the high-profile  project which consists of 21.6km of high speed rail infrastructure. We have a diverse workforce and want to ensure that every single person, whether they are directly employed, a sub contractor or self employed know and understand that there is a huge amount of support available to them.”

As well as raising funds through the sale of hard hat liners, the project has also announced their fundraising BAFTA Summer Awards Event on 22nd September which will see the best of the best on the project get together for an evening of celebration and recognition. All profits from the evening will be donated to the Lighthouse Club.

Neil Hancox, Health, Safety and Wellbeing Director said, “Each month we identify people and projects through our BAFTA initiative, (Best Align Facility Team or Asset). This gives us an opportunity to showcase these achievements and also raise money for our chosen charity”

Bill Hill, CEO of the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity said,” We are delighted to be working so closely with the Align JV and the HS2 project.  We need to ensure that we reach the boots on the ground workforce so that they know there is always help available for them and their families. As well as raising awareness, the Align JV team are also doing a fantastic job of raising much needed funds and helping to ensure that we can offer everyone in construction a huge variety of free training and wellbeing support. We love the idea of the BAFTAs and can’t wait to see the red carpet rolled out!”
