A Tribute to Allan Hemmings

11th May 2021

A past Chairman of the Lincolnshire and Humber Branch, Allan Michael Hemmings very sadly passed away on 4 April 2021, aged 76, after a long illness.

Allan was member of the Lighthouse Club for 37 years and was Chairman for around 20 years, finishing in 2018.  During his Chairmanship, the Branch won the Silver Lighthouse in 2004 for the largest annual increase in Branch membership.  Allan was truly dedicated and always ensured that everything at LHC events was done correctly.

Allan had varied interests besides the Lighthouse Club, he gained his “Wings” and owned a 2-seater light aircraft, he became a Freemason and was a Major in the Territorial Army.

Allan’s working life began when he initially gained an Apprenticeship at the Scunthorpe steelworks but begged his parents to join the Army.  He became a Corporal in the East Anglian Brigade serving in Cyprus, Germany, Malta and Northern Ireland.  He left the Army in 1966 and worked his way up through the crane industry, eventually becoming Managing Director of Peter Hird & Sons Ltd., Hull.

Allan lived his life by the mantra “Live life to the full and have no regrets”.

We wish to express our appreciation for all the great efforts Allan always put into to being a dedicated member of our Charity.

Our condolences go to Allan’s family and friends.
