In July this year trail enthusiast Matt Freeman completed the Montane Lakeland 50. Although competing for the third time, it is by no means an easy challenge!
The Lakeland 50 is one of the greatest ultra-trail challenges in Europe, perhaps the world. It is run over the second half of the Lakeland 100 Ultra Tour of the Lake District, completing the final 50 miles of the 100 mile course. The course starts at the Northern End of Ullswater in the Grand Dalemain Estate before following through Howtown, Kentmare, Trout Beck, Ambleside and finally Coniston.
Weather conditions made the race even more challenging, explained Matt;
Weather was horrendous and we ran through a month’s rain in one day…
The time limit for the race is 24 hours, but Matt smashed his previous course record of 18 hours and completed in a rainy 15hrs 44mins – congratulations Matt – what a fantastic achievement!
Matt’s new personal best time means he has qualified for the 100 mile race next year! What do you think Matt?!
