On 12th May a group of riders will be setting out on a 180 mile cycle journey from East Malling in Kent to Ghent in Belgium. Amongst them will be Vince Dignam and his wife Mo who will be using all their pedal power to support the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity.
The journey will take three days and will start in East Malling in Kent from the SME exhibition, then it’s onwards to Dover, Dunquirke, Brugge and finally arriving in Ghent where they will have a well deserved rest.
Vince is a seasoned cyclist and last year completed a London to Paris bike and saw how charities benefited and how grateful they were for everyone’s fundraising efforts.
But even Vince says that this year will be a challenge. “Probably the hardest part of the journey will be the first leg from East Malling to Dover. There are a lot of hills! We’ve been training for around eight months but other commitments means we are mostly limited to weekend training. There will be lots of stories along the way and we are looking to make this a regular industry event.
Also, the camaraderie along the way is amazing, the riders and their support teams have doubled in numbers since last year, and everyone pays their own expenses, including ferry crossings, hotel rooms and food, so all the money donated goes directly to the charities.”
When asked why Vince chose to support Lighthouse Club Charity to support, he added, “Being involved with British and Irish Trading Alliance (BITA) got me looking at this worthwhile charity and the great work they do supporting families and workers in the construction industry.
