UKSTT chooses the Lighthouse Club once again as their Charity to benefit from their awards night...
May 16th saw this year’s UKSTT awards dinner celebrate its 20th Anniversary at the Queensway Hilton, Birmingham. After a short ‘welcome’ speech to more than 180 guests by the UKSTT chairman, Ian Ramsay, the renowned ‘Spring Watch’ television host and environmentalist Chris Packham opened the evening.
Following his introduction of all the shortlisted awards entries Chris and his partner ‘shared’ some North American alligators with the audience with his usual polished mix of information, enthusiasm, and humour.
This year’s anniversary awards dinner was marked by a short, sharp, informed and humorous presentation from ISTT past president, Dec Downey. The well received tribute, delivered during the meal, covered progress over the last 20 years in the trenchless world with reference to many well known ‘characters’ and ‘specialists’ known by many of the audience and the developments and achievements they have instigated, invented, developed or witnessed. Dec also stated that the Trenchless Industry has one unique characteristic of being an industry where you are friends with your competitors.
After the meal and awards ‘stand-up’ comedian Paul Tonkinson, who manages to ridicule most of the UK, and abroad, at the same time, closed out the evening.
An amazing £1128.50 was raised during the evening for the Lighthouse Club and we send our sincere thanks to everyone for their generosity.
