On the 27th June, over 500 of the construction Industry’s finest, donned their “glad rags” and headed into the City Of London for this years’ Summer Ball at the Honourable Artillery Company.....
We were blessed with an azure blue sunlit sky and for those that arrived early for the champagne reception they were treated to the final throws of the afternoon cricket match on the lawn and the gentle strumming of the Ron Thomas Band.
However, the pace quickly picked up as the rest of the guests arrived, the tequila girls delivered their “fire water” and the “vodka luge” served its chilled liquor.
Our Master of Ceremonies, Brian Greenan, managed to bellow above the crowd and managed to get everyone seated to enjoy a delicious 3 course meal accompanied by excellent quaffable wine. After main course we were entertained by ‘Take This’ as they sang ballads from the famous band of similar name.
After dessert we held a live auction managed by the highly entertaining Colin Crossland and John Roebuck from Watts Associates Auctioneers who had travelled down from Yorkshire to join in the revelry. Along with their energetic efforts, the silent auction and the general donations we managed to raise just shy of £40,000 for the charity.
After the fundraising session, ‘Take This’ returned to the stage and got everyone on their feet dancing as they closed the formal part of the evening and left everyone in party mood to enjoy the disco, funfair and casino.
Next year the Summer Ball will be on the 9th July 2016 so don’t forget to save the date in your diary to celebrate our charity’s 60th Anniversary.
