On Tuesday 8th September 2015, 10 teams took to the track at Xtreme Karting in Edinburgh, to battle it out for the first annual Lighthouse Club Xtreme Karting Event...
Sam Embrey reports....
"The event consisted of an initial 20 minute practice/qualifying session, where each team of 3 allowed each member of their team to get a feel for the track and try to set a fast time to get as far up the field as possible for the starting grid. Following on from this was a gruelling 2 hour endurance race, where it was up to each team to formulate their own strategies, in how they wanted to undertake the driving of the 2 hour period. Most teams seemed to opt for 20 minute stints, as this was the fairest way to ensure everyone had the same driving time, and to be honest after 20 minutes you were physically exhausted to continue driving flat out!
The objective of the race, was to complete as many laps as possible in the allocated 2 hour time slot, the team with the most would be crowned the winners! It all started so well for “The Green Machines”, who took pole position and remained in the lead for the first 20 minutes or so, however as frustration grew with the back markers, time penalties to be served in the pits were allocated which allowed “Last and Furious” to creep into the lead……….their continuous solid driving ensured they stayed at the front for the rest of the period, and that meant all the other teams were chasing their tail. “Last and Furious” completed the event with circa 215 laps, with only a few laps splitting 1st to 5th.
The slowest, or “least efficient” team on the evening were Team Gap, who were handed the consolation plastic tropies, whilst the top 3 standings were:
The remaining teams who attended the event were:
The event was very kindly sponsored by Keyline and SIG, which ensured all participants were extremely well fed and watered throughout the course of the evening.
As well as having a brilliant high octane evening, the event also managed to raise £750.00 in total for the Lighthouse Club Charity”.
