Although numbers were down a little on the previous year with 205 guests attending at the Beachcomber Club at Humberston, income was at a similar level...
On arrival, guests could not escape Jo and Rosie selling raffle tickets. In fact the raffle income was the highest in three years.
The Secretary, Tim Brant, thanked the 18 companies and guests for their support of the event which helped less fortunate, industry personnel. He apologised for the Chairman, Allan Hemmings, not attending but he had a very good reason with being away with his family, for his Golden Wedding celebration for which Congratulations were sent to Allan and his wife, Ann.
Tim appealed for members to join the Lighthouse Club whilst the Branch needed young blood as two thirds of Committee members were retired! He thanked all the Committee members for their dedicated input in making it another successful event.
“Stand-up bingo” and a “fiver” raffle for a gallon bottle of whisky got the proceedings off to a good start especially when the winner, Alan Burns, very kindly donated it back for the auction. Mancunian comedian, Austin Knight got the audience laughing with his great selection of jokes.
After the raffle, Committee member and event compere, Nick Borst performed a two hour auction marathon again with his usual amusing repartee and speed, with items ranging from Manchester United football tickets, a mini i-pad, a bicycle to a vast array of cuddly toys, spirits, wine and chocolates which were all keenly bid for. At the end of the marathon, Nick’s red trouser braces were keenly auctioned off for £120. Luckily he did not need them!
The Committee were very appreciative of the many donated items for the auction and raffle from both Companies and individuals.
