Another successful Lunch!
Although numbers were down a little on the previous year with 230 guests attending at the Beachcomber Club at Humberston, income increased which was a very pleasing reward for the Committee who had worked hard to ensure that it was another successful event.
The Chairman, Allan Hemmings, started his speech with a tribute to our late President Ron Milson, a branch founder member, Welfare Officer for many years and a dedicated member of the Branch Committee who died on 1 October. Ron worked tirelessly for the Club which was greatly appreciated and he always wrote an amusing Grace which was read before the Christmas Lunch. Everyone was asked to stand and raise their glass in memory of Ron.
The Branch Patron, John Clugston DL welcomed everyone to the event and thanked them for their support. He finished his speech with a joke which the After-Lunch speaker, Kevin Connelly found very amusing.
“Stand-up bingo” and a “fiver” raffle for a gallon bottle of whisky started the proceedings. Next the audience were entertained with an amusing act by Kevin Connelly who did good impressions of politicians, sports personalities and television characters.
After the raffle, Committee member, Nick Borst performed a two hour auction marathon again with his usual amusing repartee and speed, for items ranging from Manchester United football tickets, mini i-pads, a bicycle to a vast array of cuddly toys, spirits, wine and chocolates which were all keenly bid for. At the end of the marathon, Nick’s red trouser braces were keenly auctioned off. Luckily he did not need them for support!
The Committee were very appreciative of the many donated items and the support of the event from both Companies and individuals. The venue’s multi-media system made life much easier for drawing the raffle and running the stand-up bingo whilst it was used most of the time for a continuous power-point display with St Mary’s Lighthouse background on each slide, thanking each company who had taken tables.
