CONSTRUCT Day was held at The Brewery on Friday, 2 October 2015. Once again the day was a resounding success with well over 400 people attending and 35 exhibitors.
The day started with the exhibition and a champagne reception, during which time a roving caricaturist showed off his skills with the scissors by snipping away the silhouettes of many of our guests.
We also had an aeroplane and car racing simulators which provided much amusement and also helped to raise £230 for our charity, The Lighthouse Club.
During an excellent lunch we also collected donations for the Heads and Tails competition to be run later in the afternoon. This was subsequently won by Andrew Sharp of MGF who was presented with a Jeroboam of champagne. The money raised for The Lighthouse Club for this event was £4,437.20.
Our speaker this year was Jeff Probyn who was a very funny and entertaining speaker and very well liked by our audience. He was very friendly and had time for anyone who wanted to speak to him. He very kindly donated a tie to commemorate the 100th match between England and Ireland in 1988. The tie was won and very appreciatively received by Pat Boyle of MPB Structures.
The Apprentice Award was won by William Childs of J P Dunn Construction Ltd and a Highly Commended Award went to Danny Stocking of the Anderson Group.
The Health and Safety Award was won by A J Morrisroe and Sons Ltd for their Black-Hat Engagement Workshop (B-HEW) and a Highly Commended Award went to Carey Group pic for Ensuring Safer Access for Operatives: Innovation in the use of Concrete Placing Booms.
The Award for Innovation for Materials and Products went to Ischebeck Titan Ltd for their Screen Saver for One Blackfriars and a Commendation went to Bluebay Building Products Ltd for their Solco Form Tie Waterstop.
The Award for Innovation for Design, Process and Concrete Construction went to UNPS Ltd for the Lee Tunnel - Secondary Lining: Use of SmartShell™ and a Commendation went to Laing O'Rourke Construction Ltd for their e6 Slab System used at St Thomas' Hospital.
Sincere thanks to all the above winners who very generously donated their prizes to the Lighthouse Charity. This made the overall donation form the day a truly amazing £9167.20.
