After last years’ resounding success it was always going to be a tough call to raise the benchmark in 2015
Expectations were high as the 1000 guests from London’s construction industry poured through the revolving doors of the Park Plaza Westminster for this “sell out” event, in what was loosely themed as an Olympic prelude. The guests were welcomed by a host of stunning and colourful Brazilian dancers and a pint of Guinness, their faces immediately lit up with smiles and the banter and laughter soon filled the room… at this point we knew we were in for a cracking afternoon.
During the afternoon we were royally entertained by the celebrity guests of Sally Gunnell, Barry McGuigan, Phil Vickery and Richard Dunwoody ably interviewed by the consummate relaxed style of John Inverdale in what was a mixture of hilarious anecdote and insight into the world of sport. Thanks to McGee Group Ltd, we were also delighted to have the legendary All Black, Zinzan Brooke join our celebrity panel. He gave a inspirational and lovely tribute to the late great Jonah Lomu.
Then to end the celebrity Q&A, Barry McGuigan delivered his own tribute by recapturing the atmosphere of his historic win in 1985 by singing an emotional rendition of “Danny Boy”… the audience spontaneously joined in!
Once again close up magic was performed by Nick Einhorn and Laura London who completely transfixed the guests with unbelievable trickery.
During the afternoon we raised funds for the charity through a raffle sponsored by RIFT and a “live” and “silent” auction. The total raised on the day after all event expenses was a magnificent £150,000!
At 16:30 the guests slowly dispersed to the on-site after party where the banter and networking continued for some time.
A huge thank you to all that supported this event and as we enter our 60th Anniversary Year for the Lighthouse Club we are already dreaming up something bigger and better for 2016…. So don’t forget to book early to avoid disappointment.
