The 29th of May saw the gathering of 16 teams from the Construction Industry assemble at the beautifully prepared Tandridge Golf Club in Surrey for the 14th running of the industry’s Pro-Am event.
Companies came from far and wide to compete in this much loved event. The format is unusual in that each team of 3 is paired up with a PGA professional. The teams then battle it out over 18 holes for the coveted “Whisky Decanter” … a bit like the Claret Jug! This is the main team prize but there was also a top prize for the winning PGA professional. In fact the event is so well patronised it is actually on the South England PGA tour.
In this year’s event we also added a beat the pro hole….. but this was no ordinary beat the pro… we were delighted to welcome Laura McDonald and Lucy Williams from European Golf Challenge to see how they could match up to the burly giants of the Construction Industry. Lucy Williams, seen in the team pictures below, not only managed to beat all bar a few to the pin at the short hole challenge, she also informed us that she had just qualified for the US Ladies Open Championship at Pinehurst…. We wish her well !
Thankfully the weather played its part in making the day memorable and the event was completed with a celebration dinner and prizegiving. During the meal funds were raised through the customary “heads and tails”, a silent auction and a live auction. In total the event cleared £5,500 much needed funds for the charity and everyone went away with a smile on their face, especially the winners !
