The Lighthouse Club
Scotland (East) Annual Dinner
Friday 10th November 2017
Now the largest and “only must attend” event in the Scottish Construction Industry calendar, this year’s East of Scotland branch dinner will again be held at the Sheraton Grand Hotel and Spa in Edinburgh and we invite you and your company the opportunity to attend this prestigious industry event.
After the success of last year’s event and to ensure the unrivalled high standards of the event, the committee are delighted to announce this year’s guest speakers and hosts will be Television and Movie actor and stand-up comedian John Thomson and Ted Robins. John is a regular contributor on many TV and radio shows and is one of the UK brightest comedy stars today and Actor and Comedian Ted has hosted a number of events, engaging with audiences whilst slipping in hilarious gags and ensuring everything runs to plan. With the ability to tailor their content to a client’s briefs, we are looking forward to how they will both approach our unique evening and are sure they will certainly put the fun in our fundraising evening.
Stand-up comedian, impressionist, comedy actor and writer John Thomson is a popular British film and television actor known for his appearances alongside some of Britain’s most popular comedy performers, including Steve Coogan, Paul Whitehouse and Martin Clunes.
Thomson has appeared in popular British television since the early 1990’s and has worked consistently as a stand-up comedian at university; John Thomson began his career as an actor and comedy writer on the British satirical series Spitting Image, later going on to work closely with Steve Coogan on such shows as Coogan’s Run, the Paul and Pauline Calf video Diaries and Knowing Me, Knowing You… with Alan Partridge.
Since then John Thomson has accrued a number of awards for his work as a stand-up comedian, comedy writer and actor, including a Perrier Comedy Award for his work at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He was a long-standing cast member for the cult British comedy the Fast Show as well as holding a role as a recurring actor in Men Behaving Badly.
More recently John Thomson has become known for his role in the ITV comedy drama Cold Feet in which he played Pete Gifford, as well as a recurring guest role in Coronation Street, the court-room drama New Street Law and the BBC series Waterloo Road. He has worked as a voice actor on the revived BBC children’s series Bill and Ben and Mr Windfall in Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
Beginning his career as a redcoat at Butlins, Ted Robbins is known as one of the best TV warm-up acts in the country. Mixing his abilities as a comedian as well as an actor, Ted is constantly in demand for television appearances and stage productions. Known for presenting game shows such as Quiz Night, Bratpack and Chainletters, Ted is a household name whose infectious enthusiasm and loveable personality ensure everyone has a fantastic and entertaining time.
Featuring in leading dramas including Holby City, Doctors and Brookside, Ted is also the hated character Den Perry, who burned down the Phoenix Club in Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights and recently appeared in Coronation Street.
An ideal actor for television and stage dramas, Robbins’ extensive experience in front of camera and audience guarantees a polished performance bursting with professionalism.
