Overview

South East Branch prides itself as being one of the most lively branches in the Club. Chairman Martin Dace presides over an active committee which has an age range of from 30 upwards. This makes for the ideal mix of enthusiasm and experience and ensures that South East is a flourishing centre of Club activity.

There is an annual dinner held in Ashford in February; the annual ball enjoys the unique surroundings afforded by Leeds Castle or the Marriott Tudor Park, both near Maidstone; go-kart racing takes place at Buckmore Park in Spring and Autumn, one of the best venues in the U.K; there are two golf days each year and other functions are arranged to fit in around all those mentioned. All this fun activity gives a lot of new and old friends the chance to meet socially whilst raising many tens of thousands of pounds which the branch donates to the benevolent fund each year.

Secretary Tonia East looks after Branch administration and treasurer Keith Cutis makes sure the books balance.

Welfare activities are in the capable and experienced hands of Len Smith (who is also a Benevolent Fund Trustee) assisted by Craig Durrant.

Although no longer in the South East branch, past chairman Steve Radcliffe is responsible for the Club's five places in the London Marathon; they earn for the Benevolent Fund well in excess of 10k every year.
Events 2010

The Branch Annual Dinner is, as usual, at Ashford International Hotel on Friday 26th February. Chairman Martin Dace writes: last year’s dinner was so good we are expecting, even in these difficult times, a quick uptake of tables and room reservations.

This year’s entertainer is the popular sports impressionist and comic Aaron James.

Branch News
Great Karting at Buckmore
1/06/09

Back at the beginning of April things were looking ‘iffy’ for South East’s Spring Karting event at Buckmore Park, however the strenuous efforts of Martin Dace and Tonia East made sure that there was enough support for the event to go ahead as planned on Thursday 23rd April.

This 23 Kart line up was in part due to
Martin’s and Tonia’s deluge of emails.

As the sun went down on what had been a fine day, the 23 entrants commenced their tussle. The dry track, plus Buckmore’s new fleet of karts, (used in their higher state of tune) gave us some fast, fun, racing.

The evening’s racing format was 2 x 40 minute heats with each team having to change drivers at least twice in each heat. Points were scored for each heat, with the highest aggregate being the overall winner. The line up on the starting grid for the first heat was decided as follows: Every team was asked to submit a sealed cash donation to our fund to bid for their placing on the grid.

Book Early for Christmas
9/07/09

Word comes from Branch Secretary Tonia East telling of the Branch’s plans for their Christmas Dinner Dance.

Well aware of these difficult times, Martin Sunderland has arranged a very flexible deal for Saturday 5th December, one which will accommodate from 70 to a maximum of 340. However, early notification is essential and that depends on you.

Full details are available from the Events column to the left. Martin’s flyer is full of welcome news and common sense!

Our Karts had an enthusiastic crowd of supporters

For the second heat, the line up saw our teams placed in reverse order of their first heat finishing positions. This cunning ploy meant that from the off the quickies at the back were trying to get past the slower starters. This always results in an awful lot of drama and excitement at the first hairpin.

This exciting racing was seen again and again during the first few laps.

Among the 23 karts entered were quite a few drivers we had not seen before, and some who had definitely not raced before with our usual bunch of lunatics! However it did mean that the normal Tail End Charlies from FGS Plant came in a more respectable 18th and 20th leaving Rift Racers, RA Racers and Rift Raff to prop up the table — do come again you guys, as you will have found, Buckmore Park guarantees some terrific racing. At the end of a real fun evening the tally of points showed that in third place we had Ace of Clubbs; taking second spot were JP Crashers; and the winners, but not by a big margin, were TL Finishers.

The lads from TL Finishers team with their hard won trophies

A big thank you from Martin and Tonia to all who supported the event. As a result, a great night was had by all the entrants and their friends, and £1800 was raised towards the South East’s next cheque for the Benevolent Fund.
