09/03/09 Ladies Night
‘All’s well that etc. etc.!
Sometime early last Saturday evening Lee Sadler & Andy Chambers will have been regretting taking on the role of ‘The Producers for Western’s Ladies Night at the Cadbury Club’. Their chosen band, the ‘Abba Revival’ (or some such) relayed the news that they were broken down on the M4. However, not to worry, not to worry, the band’s agent had a replacement group on the way - from London!
When Secretary (and news reporter) Alan Waterson arrived he missed out on the ‘not to worry’ bit. However, the early arrival of comedian Steve Tandy cheered everybody up.
A quick crisis meeting with Steve and the Club’s disc jockey and the evening’s entertainment was re-scheduled: Steve would entertain after the meal, to be followed, if necessary, by the ‘Disco Star of the Cadbury Club’ and, please God, let the band arrive in time.
They did.
The ‘Puckish’ character on the left is Comedian
Steve Tandy whose irrepressible good humour
held the evening together as the music drove West.
He deserved his long applause.
But first came apologies and an explanation from Alan. Of course, more than a few of our guests were Abba fans, which is why they were there.
Nevertheless, though disappointed they took it in good part. As it turned out, the replacement group were fine performers, everyone had a good time and at the end of a thoroughly enjoyable evening Alan, Lee and Andy were able to heave a well deserved sigh of relief.
This picture of the Cadbury Club’s crowded floor
says: ‘The ABBA Revival Replacement’ did a good job.’
The Cadbury Club’s two raffle prizes, for: A couple’s overnight stay, breakfast and lunch at the Spa and A Sunday Lunch for two; were well received but the shooting prize caused some tongue-in-cheek consternation.
Two places, for ladies, on a day’s clay pigeon shoot were gifted by branch welfare officer Paul Onslow’s company Amp Access. The winners’ husbands were very vocal in declining to be present where their wives were to be armed and (in the husbands’ view) dangerous.
A lot of laughs, good music and dancing, what started as a crisis ended as another memorable Lighthouse night out.
