2008 Annual Dinner
10/3/08
Mark Everett, Chairman of our Trustees,
a cheque for £52,000, and Keith Curtis.
The Branch had a full house at Ashford’s International Hotel for their February 29 Annual Dinner. Entertainment came from Roger deCourcey and Nookie Bear. Roger is a regular at our Lincs Branch and has his Lighthouse Club audiences well judged. As a result it was a great evening’s entertainment.
Guest of Honour was our Mark Everett, Chairman of our Fund’s Trustees. Mark was there to receive South East’s annual donation to our Fund. Keith Curtis, who organised the event, made the presentation, this time £52,000! As Mark said – ‘A great start to the year’.
Close Kart Racing at Buckmore Park
14/02/08
With the first of 2008’s karting events coming up at Buckmore Park on April 3, organiser Martin Dace reminds us what a close finish it was last September.
There was a maximum of 58 points that could be scored and the top three teams came very close to that maximum.
Although the weather stayed kind while our teams were racing, earlier downpours had left such a wet track that pirouetting was inevitable! Driving conditions were tricky to say the least, and as slick tyres are used come what may, the resulting racing was pretty spectacular.
Given the very tricky state of the track, everybody was pretty heroic to keep going. In some sections there was more aquaplaning than real traction.
When the chequered flag came down, Thompson Tipper Bodies, with 56 points, were the winners by one point from the Ace of Clubbs team, and one point behind them in third place were RCL3 (Royland Construction). What might be called a tight finish! Maybe RCL 3 pulled the stops out as Roy Prior (their guvnor) was watching them!
Two of those top three were newcomers to our Buckmore Park evenings, a pleasing result for Martin who has worked hard to build the event to the success it now enjoys. Says Martin: “a big thank you, not only to everybody who took part, but also to the company owners, decision makers and individuals who foot the bill. It’s their generosity that gives us this terrific event. Between the entry money, grid placing auction and other contributions we raised the magnificent sum of £2348 from a reasonably packed grid of 29 karts”.
For this coming April 3 race night, Martin in confident of a full grid. Details and entry forms are available in pdf format – see Coming Events on this page.
